Each of the students
(candidates) will present an essay and a completed and signed
Candidate Registration form
to their area chairman on the above topic, at which time they become delegates.
They will then be expected to give a 5-7 min speech on that
same topic. The local winner will be granted
an expense paid trip to the East Coast where they and other students from
around
Application Requirements:
1) You must be a high school student, or equivalent, if home schooled and have not completed your senior year.
2) Fill out an Candidate Application form provided by your local committee. The form must be signed by parent or legal guardian.
Essay Requirements:
3) You must write a 500-750 word essay and
Supply (4) copies of it to the committee chairman.
No name or school name on any part of the essays, only on the accompanying application form.
Double spaced and typed
Judging will be on spelling, content, and grammar as well as content and pertinence to the given topic. Homepage
Delegate Requirements:
4) ALL ATTENDING DELEGATES MUST FILL OUT A SIGNED AND NOTARIZED Delegate Medical forms . The form must be Notarized because the tour crosses the international boundary between the US and Canada, and US customs will be be verifying that all under age tour members are on the tour with the consent of the parent or legal gruadian. (Welcome to post 911 rules.) And that form also contains the parental consent required for border crossing.
This fulfills your application requirements.
All students having filled out an application and having submitted an acceptable essay will be known as Delegates and are eligible to attend the tour. The winner of the speech contest in each area will receive an expense paid trip. Other Delegates may elect to pay their own way or find a valid alternative sponsor. One additional delegate in each area will be forwarded to the state committee, and from that pool of name one additional delegate will be sent by the committee on behalf of the Grand Lodge and the Rebekah Assembly of Oregon.
Speech Requirements::
1) You must give a 5 to 7 minute speech which relates to the theme of your essay.
A) Your speech may be memorized, but it is NOT required.
B) Your speech shall NOT be a recital of your essay.
Dates and deadlines for this years contest:
1) Essays must be received by {Check with your area Chair}.
2) Speeches will be presented {Check with your area Chair}.
3) Tour will start in June or July 2010, but the date will be dictated to us from national. All attending Delegates will be kept informed regarding dates and changes.
Touring Delegates (and 1st runner up in each Area) must:
Delegates are required to have a valid legal PHOTO ID with their name spelled correctly.
A photo copy of that ID WILL be requested to ensure purchase of Air Fare due to 911 rules.
Delegates are required to have a physical, which is part of the tour application. Forms will be provided, and the required dates must be valid.
Delegates are required to have a valid U.S. Passport in hand at the end of the send off dinner, (or appropriate papers, if foreign born) which is held on the eve of the tour. NO PASSPORT or PAPERS MEANS NO TOUR!!
While in New York, Delegates will participate in a speech contest with the winner receiving a $1500 scholarship.
Upon returning, delegates will be ask to present a report of their tour to the lodge(s) in their area and may be ask to present speeches describing their tour to High Schools, Lodges and Civic Groups in their area. Your availability will be most appreciated. Homepage
